Awards & Reviews

AMD is back on form with their new cards. However, that blower card did perform quite well, but clearly was holding back the full potential of the RX 5700 chipset. The PowerColor Red Dragon Radeon RX 5700 soon sorted that out. A great price and delivering great performance. The cherry on top has to be just how slick this card looks too. Highly recommended.
• sehr leise beim Spielen
• ordentliche Temperaturentwicklung
• schicke Optik
• gelungenes Rundumpaket
PowerColor does almost everything right with the Radeon RX 5700 Red Dragon. The graphics card is slightly faster than the reference design and works quietly in all situations. The power consumption is limited and the red dragon looks good too. The only thing that has not been successful is the sharp-edged board, which makes a painless installation in the housing almost impossible - but eimmal put into operation, it does not matter anymore.
In contrast, the Asus Radeon RX 5700 TUF is quite different. As far as the performance and the power consumption are concerned, there is not much to complain about, but Asus has completely gambled on the volume. A fan operating at 1,000 rpm on the Windows desktop is simply outdated. And while playing the noise level is hardly better than the loud reference design. That the look is much less elegant than the competition model, then plays no role anymore.
Gamers Nexus
The PowerColor RX 5700 Red Dragon has a few technical victories over the Pulse in this testing (noise-normalized), although both cards are significantly improved over baseline and aren’t too distant from each other. Deciding between the cards should mostly be governed by the following: Price, availability in a region, then thermals (to a minor degree), and finally looks. If you’d prefer the slightly better thermals and ~1.5% higher gaming performance (the latter is irrelevant, frankly), then the PowerColor Red Dragon makes the most sense; that said, if the Red Dragon is unavailable in your region, the Pulse is completely fine as a stand-in. We aren’t bothered by either card and would buy based on price and availability. Assuming all is equal, the Red Dragon has a technical victory

Mad Shrimps
The RX 5700 Red Dragon card implementation from PowerColor does feature a less complex cooling system versus the Red Devil, but manages to keep a more compact form factor. If pushed in intensive benchmarks, we have noticed that the fans start to spin up after the GPU reaches 45 degrees Celsius at very low speeds, maxing out at about 2000RPM at very acceptable noise levels (about 38 dBA). For keeping manufacturing costs low, there is no LED lighting available, but you can always compensate this aspect by using your own RGB setup inside the computer case.
Mad Shrimps
Even if we are dealing with only 2304 stream processors and lower operating clocks versus the XT models, the card does not disappoint at all when running at 1440P. You will be surely able to run most titles at high to ultra-details while getting 60+ framerates on OC mode and if you do aim on playing titles that require little resources such as e-sports games, you can surely boot on the Silent BIOS via the easily available switch.
Hardware Info
The RX 5700 Red Dragon is a modest model with a relatively simple cooler, but due to smart tuning it is extremely quiet: we measure only 32.5 dB (A) even in the standard OC mode. This makes it by far the quietest RX 5700 that we have tested so far. Moreover, it is also just the fastest, although there is little difference in performance between the cards themselves.
The RX 5700 XT Red Devil also impresses, but in a different way. As standard, it cools excellent and that ensures good results in the benchmarks - it is not really quiet in this mode. However, the silent mode works great: the Red Devil then changes in one go to the quietest RX 5700 XT that we have tested so far (including quiet modes), while the temperature remains within the range. It doesn't even clock much lower, so it hardly affects the performance.
Until now, we have only awarded Great Value awards to custom Navi cards: so far no single model was possible. Powercolor is successful: the RX 5700 XT Red Devil can perform well and work quietly, which in our opinion is the best RX 5700 XT that we have tested so far. We are also enthusiastic about the RX 5700 Red Dragon; he is (partly due to the poor availability) still reasonable at the price, but the super quiet operation and excellent performance make up for that quickly. We provide both Powercolor models with an Excellent Choice award.
