PowerColor PCS+ HD4870 1GB GDDR5 |
2008/9 |
"The Radeon HD 4800 series had looked incredibly toasty compared to its NVIDIA rivals: with their coolers sacrificing lower temperatures to maintain quiet operation. PowerColor's PCS+, with its ZEROtherm cooler, goes some way to redressing the balance, offering far cooler temperatures. We observed a whopping 27°C reduction in the load temperature, whilst maintaining reasonable noise levels. The PowerColor HD 4870 1GB PCS+ receives the HEXUS.gaming speed award for offering excellent performance, even at the highest resolutions."

"We can find out that PowerColor HD4850 PCS+ has great performance in all tests and beats 9800GTX in many benchmarks. With Zerotherm cooling system, the copper fin increase heat dissipation and lower the GPU temperature efficiently."

" We have great impression about the cooling system and power circuit of the card. With dual-s shape heatpipe and cooper heatsink on the memory, the temperature has been decreased efficiently; furthermore, with the improvement of the power circuit, PCS+ HD4870 can be really stable while running high memory/clock speed. "The Professional Cooling System certainly does the job then, and it'll be interesting to see if rival vendors can go one up on what the PCS has achieved here."

“The simple fact that I was able to get the core of the card up past 850MHz was another added bonus, I was expecting to only get an extra 25-30MHz, not 60MHz, on the core and 200MHz on the memory! The cooling solution that PowerColor has added to its HD4870 was able to keep the card quite cool; during full load the card was only reaching 55°C, which is lower than some of the HD4850s that were clocked lower than this! The heatpipe cooling solution definitely makes this card worth the price of admission. “

“PowerColor has what we think it’s a winner, with this card with better cooling and absolutely silent and better performance with overclock. Knowing that this card is not made for the most hardcore gamers, its price, consumption and performance and finally its quiet operation we strongly recommend it.”

"The card which uses a chip that is derived from the RV770 will easily let you play all titles at resolutions up to 1280x1024. Together with the low fan noise of the Powercolor heatsink this makes the card an excellent candidate for a media PC which will occasionally be used for some gaming. Price/performance wise the HD 4670 is the card of choice if you are looking for the best bang for the buck and don't want to buy the GeForce 9600 GT."

"PowerColor has gone with ZEROtherm again for its Radeon HD 4670 card. It's only marginally overclocked but at least, the move to a third party cooler has ensured that it is both quiet and cool. Performance too was very decent for its segment, with the PowerColor springing more than a few surprises in our testing."
